Sri Lankan team stopped from touring India

With all the bizarre ‘Smog issues’ surfacing in the Delhi test, you almost felt like Sri Lanka had had their lust for the bizarre satiated, but what happened today morning with their ODI and T20 side does not suggest so, as the team was forced to return back from the airport, following an order from the Sri Lankan sports minister.

The Sri Lankan Sports Minister was apparently not happy with the selections made for Sri Lanka’s limited overs tour of India, and wanted to start an enquiry, and maybe make changes to the team touring India.

“The nine players were on their way to Colombo airport late on Monday for the overnight flight when they were ordered to return,” the AFP report.

Thisara Perrera has been appointed as the captain for the Sri Lankan team for the ODI series, and this will be his first ever assignment as captain of the nation. Hopefully, he will last more than his predecessors, as Sri Lanka desperately need a constant leader at the helm of things.

Dinesh Chandimal has been left out of the squad, despite his impressive performances in the Test Series, and maybe that is the prime reason why the Sports Minister wants to look into the squad selection before the team can leave for India.

With no proper communication from the Sri Lanka Cricket board, there are some dark clouds hovering over the limited overs series, especially after all the Smog drama surrounding the 3rd Test in Delhi.

It would also be interesting to see how BCCI react to his incident, with discussions about the Smog set to get underway after the completion of the Test series.

India and Sri Lanka are set to lock horns in a three match ODI series, followed by a three match T20 series.

The ODI series begins in Dharamshala, followed by games in Mohali and Vizag. The T20 will follow that, with the two team scheduled to play 6 matches in the space of just 14 days.

Hopefully the Sports Ministry and the Sri Lankan selection committee can find a way to work around this issue and let the Sri Lankan players leave for India at the earliest.
