"Novak Djokovic Could Have All Four": Former Wimbledon Champion Rues Carlos Alcaraz Loss & Missed Calendar Slam

Carlos Alcaraz created history on Sunday by defeating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles final. With the win, the 20-year-old pocketed a whopping $3.07 million, as the Wimbledon Championships offers the second highest amount of prize money amongst all Grand Slams. Alcaraz is fortunate to have the won the tournament this year, as the amount he received is 17.5% greater than what Djokovic won in 2022 as champion.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic himself took home a handsome $1.54 million as a runner-up, which is up nearly 12% to what Nick Kyrgios earned, the man whom he beat in last year’s final. This makes for an interesting comparison as to how much have Alcaraz and Djokovic both earned in 2023, with the Spaniard edging just ahead of the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Novak Djokovic net worth and Wimbledon 2023 prize money earnings

If Novak Djokovic is considered first up, the Serbian superstar has won the first two Grand Slams this year, making 2023 already a memorable and a financially viable year for him as well. From those two titles, Djokovic’s net worth got a boost of $5,071,453. However, in his other ATP Tour appearances, Djokovic did not win a trophy while choosing to skip the Miami and Indian Wells Masters tournaments.

In the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year, Novak Djokovic was upset in the Round of 16 itself, which made him win $87,381, an amount that is way lower than his usually sky-high standards. There wasn’t much for him even in his hometown event, the Serbia Open in Belgrade, because he lost in the quarterfinals, taking home just $19,115. Before the French Open, he played in the Rome Masters as well but again was knocked out in the quarterfinals, earning him $178,400.

In that sense, 2023 perhaps has not been Novak Djokovic’s best year of all-time since he is known to be consistent at ATP Tour competitions as well. That is the reason why Djokovic leads the all-time charts of winning the highest tournament prize money in the sport.

If all the amounts mentioned above are added up, then it is safe to say that Djokovic has so far earned approximately $6.9 million this year from the game. With US-hosted tournaments out of question again, it might be difficult for Djokovic to add much to this tally, making tournaments in other countries extremely must-win for him. The overall Novak Djokovic net worth figure is reportedly $511.5 million at the moment as per Forbes.

Carlos Alcaraz net worth and Wimbledon 2023 prize money earnings

Thanks to his Wimbledon 2023 final win, at the age of 20, the brilliant Carlos Alcaraz has managed to take his net worth surely past the $20 million mark (if other undisclosed sponsorship bonuses are presumed to be taken into account). Prior to the Wimbledon Championships, that Carlos Alcaraz net worth figure was hovering around the $17-18 million mark courtesy many of his ATP Tour titles.

The Wimbledon win is Alcaraz’s 6th Championship title this year, making it one of the most memorable seasons played by a 20-year-old since Rafael Nadal in 2006. Prior to the Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz had bagged a cool $510,000 for winning his first-ever grass court ATP title at Queen’s.

Despite missing out on the Australian Open earlier this year, Alcaraz well and truly made up for that with a Wimbledon win, French Open semi-final appearance and before that, 5 titles, i.e. Queen’s, the Argentina Open ($95,305), Indian Wells Masters ($1.26 million), Madrid Masters ($1.23 million) and Barcelona Open ($525,321). His 2 disappointments have been – 1) Losing in the Miami Masters semi-finals, which made him go home with just $352,635. 2) A third round exit in the Rome Masters, which only fetched him $53,937.

As a result, by estimates, taking fluctuating exchange rates and other factors into account, Carlos Alcaraz has probably earned $7.9 million already from 2023. This is almost $1 million more than Novak Djokovic has this season.

With the second half of the year featuring the US Open and the ‘North American swing’ besides other indoor and hard court tournaments which are the most lucrative on the ATP Tour, the World No.1’s earnings could end up anywhere between $10-15 million. This is of course if he can keep up with his form and remain injury-free.
