Champions League News: Emre Can wants out of Juventus after CL squad exclusion

Emre Can is angry with Juventus after facing omission from the Champions League squad.

German International Emre Can is ‘angry and upset’ with Juventus after facing axe from the Champions League Group Stage squad.

The 25-year-old, who came on as a substitute during Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final, is a surprise exclusion along with the striker Mario Mandzukic.

Deciding to run down his contract with Liverpool in 2018, he opted to join Juventus. Upon signing for the club, Can made 29 appearances in the Serie A and 6 in the Champions League. He was part of the squad which came back in a dramatic manner against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16. The midfielder has a league title medal, but he failed to taste European success when his old club did.

The Old Lady added eight more players to their roster including the midfielder Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot. With many players at disposal, manager Maurizio Sarri was forced to emit two to three players because of this issue.

The former Liverpool midfielder said he was guaranteed a spot in the Champions League squad before the transfer window shut. He is totally infuriated with the manager, who left him out without mentioning the reason.

The 25-year-old said: “It’s a huge disappointment, I have to play in the Champions League. I am shocked and angry.”

“Me and my advisor talked to other clubs. After talking to Juventus I decided to stay. For me, one condition was to play in the Champions League. Had I known before, I wouldn’t have stayed. Now I draw my conclusions and will talk to the club and my agent.”

Emre Can was subjected to interest from Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona in the summer transfer window. However, he decided to stay put in Allianz Stadium after being guaranteed a Champions League spot verbally, which did not pan out to be true.

With Emre Can missing out on the Champions League spot for the group stages, Miralem Pjanic, Aaron Ramsey, Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi, Adrien Rabiot, Rodrigo Bentancur will occupy the central midfield position.
