Chelsea Transfer News: Blues star agrees to join La Liga giants in summer transfer window

Marcos Alonso has reportedly agreed to join Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. 

There will be major changes at Atletico Madrid in the summer. The Spanish side have already lost Lucas Hernandez to Bayern Munich and Antoine Griezmann will follow him to the exit door. Besides, Diego Godin, Felipe Luis, and Juanfran are free agents as their contract expires on July 1.

It will be an interesting phase for the club, who prepare to enter the transition period. Diego Simeone has to be confident about his signings to take the club forward again. Chelsea’s defender Marcos Alonso is heading the shortlist for the Argentine International, according to Marca.

The Spanish International’s salary was not deemed plausible by Atletico Madrid, who made their first approach two months ago. However, the landscape has totally changed after the former Real Madrid graduate is open to a transfer in the summer transfer window.

Currently playing as an understudy to Emerson Palmieri in the left-back position, the 28-year-old is open to listening offers. The defender will be the first-choice at Wanda Metropolitano after Lucas Hernandez’s transfer and Filipe Luis’ inevitable departure upon his contract expiry.

But, Atletico Madrid have major complication to clear in this transfer. Albeit agreeing terms with the player, they have to come to a conclusion about the transfer fee. Alonso put pen to paper until 2023 last summer which will force Atletico to pay up.

Not only that the transfer fee will cause a problem, but the Blues have been hit with a transfer ban. This has disabled the reigning Europa League winners from making signings in the next two transfer windows. Despite unremitted interest from Atletico Madrid, it is not going to be easy to prise him away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard confirmed his departure from the club after the Europa League triumph on Wednesday. The club will be focussing on keeping their defender, but they will be tempted to sell if Atletico come away with a good offer. The Blues will have a silent summer after being hit with a transfer ban.
