Chelsea Transfers News: Atletico Madrid Set To Offer Chelsea Loan Deal For Marcos Alonso: The Spanish club is spearheading the race to snare the leftback’s services
With Chelsea going berserk in the summer as they broke the bank to rope in a string of new names, it was only rightful that the old guards would end up growing out of favour. One such player who has had to endure the plight is defender Marcos Alonso with the player no longer finding a place for himself in Chelsea’s setup.
Losing his place to Ben Chilwell who Chelsea indulged in after signing him from Leicester City for 45 million pounds, Alonso has now become the third choice leftback at the club. The move was confirmed during the club’s contest against West Ham with Emerson Palmieri being brought on to fill for an injured Chilwell.
Shut out by Lampard after three years at the club, Alonso is now looking to secure his future elsewhere as he scours for playing time. And with Chelsea being extremely eager to get the player off their books as well, a deal could be impending come January.
Atletico Madrid Set To Offer Chelsea Loan Deal For Marcos Alonso
According to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, Alonso could return to his home country come next month with Atletico Madrid seriously interested in landing the player. Alonso’s versatility is said to have enticed Atletico Madrid with Diego Simeone considering him a sublime fit at the left wingback slot.
The report also goes onto state that both Chelsea and Atletico Madrid would share the onus of the player’s fees with either club shelving out 50% of the weekly wages the player takes home. A loan deal would see the player move to the Spanish outfit till the end of the current season.
Alonso has previously also been linked to a move to Inter Milan with Chelsea’s old manager, Antonio Conte said to be an avid admirer of the player.
Alonso had previously won the Premier League with Chelsea under Conte’s reigns before eventually waning in form. While he continued to remain a massive threat up the pitch, his inability to defend and put in the tackles and blocks saw him gradually be closed out by Lampard.
He’s currently employed at Chelsea till 2023.
