Chris Gayle retirement: Watch Virat Kohli hugs Chris Gayle after Universe Boss' last ODI innings

Chris Gayle retirement: Veteran West Indies opening batsman seems to have played his last ODI vs India at Port of Spain.

During the third ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of West Indies at Port of Spain, veteran West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle has given clear indications of having played his last ODI innings. While Gayle hasn’t officially announced anything, he had hinted of the India series being his last during the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The reactions that followed post Gayle’s dismissal further confirmed that the Universe Boss is unlikely to take the field in West Indian colours in the future.

While most of the Indian players congratulated Gayle post his dismissal, India captain Virat Kohli hugged his former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate and also shook a leg with him. While walking back to the pavilion, Gayle acknowledged the standing ovation from both the fans and the dressing rooms of both the teams.

Opening the batting with Evin Lewis (43), Gayle stitched a quickfire 115-run partnership which was brought to an end by India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 11th over. Gayle departed in the next over after Lewis as he hit a Khaleel Ahmed delivery straight to Kohli at mid-off.

In most probably his last ODI innings, Gayle entertained the fans with his quintessential attacking display of batting. The 39-year old southpaw punished the Indian fast bowlers left, right and centre. While he hit 20 runs off a Mohammed Shami over, he hit 17 off Ahmed’s second over.

Before getting out, Gayle ended up scoring 72 (41) with the help of eight fours and five sixes.
