Chris Woakes catch vs India: Watch England pacer grabs outstanding boundary catch to dismiss Rishabh Pant

Chris Woakes catch vs India: English cricketer timed his dive to perfection to put on display an outstanding catch against India.

During the 38th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and India at Edgbaston, England pacer Chris Woakes put on display an extra-ordinary fielding effort to send back India batsman Rishabh Pant.

It all happened on the first delivery of the 40th over when Pant’s hoick off Liam Plunkett on the leg-side landed him in an unsafe territory. Woakes, who was fielding at deep square leg, ran to his left to grab an outstanding catch whilst in the air.

While England surely had the upper hand in the match, dismissing Pant gave them a further edge to the hosts. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 29th over, Pant looked good for his 32 (29) with the help of four overs. Playing his first match in the tournament, the southpaw seemed to be in touch but the soaring required run rate proved to be too much for him.

Having registered an opening spell of 5-3-8-1, Woakes grabbing such a catch came an a vital contribution in England’s cause. It is worth mentioning that Woakes had earlier taken a spectacular catch against Pakistan in the tournament.

After England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and chose to bat, the hosts scored 337/7 in their allotted quota of 50 overs. Opening batsman Jonny Bairstow top-scored for his team scoring his eighth ODI century, 111 (109), with the help of 10 fours and six sixes. With bowling figures of 10-1-69-5, India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was the pick of their bowlers.
