It was just over a couple of weeks ago that Cricket South Africa had announced a riveting format to resume cricket in the nation following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Named 3TC (3 Team Cricket), the format will become the first one to witness three cricket teams involving international players participating in one match in an unusual manner.
However, it was only after a few days that CSA decided to postpone the one-off match citing the threat caused by coronavirus. Scheduled to be played in Centurion, CSA couldn’t manage to arrange for a government permission to conduct an exhibition match in a COVID-19 hotspot.
“Because it is an activity played in a hotspot, it needs to be referred to the department of health. We will have to be delayed,” CSA’s acting CEO Jacques Faul was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

However, a recent development from CSA speaks of conducting the match on Nelson Mandela International Day (July 18).
South Africa white-ball captain Quinton de Kock, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada and former captain AB de Villiers will lead the three teams in 3TC. The tournament will also mark de Villiers’ return as far as playing among his former teammates is concerned.

A 36-over match will be divided into two innings of 18 overs each. Each team will bat for six overs in an innings and face both the teams across as many innings. As is the general rule in cricket, the team which scores more runs will be declared as the winners.
The “revolutionary three format” or the Solidarity Cup 2020 aims at raising money for THE HARDSHIP FUND, a Cricket South Africa initiative to help all those from the cricket community who are enduring hardships due to the coronavirus pandemic.
