A Rahane run out video today: Ajinkya Rahane dismissed after huge mix-up with KL Rahul in Nottingham Test

Ajinkya Rahane run out video: The Indian vice-captain’s brief nervous stay came to an end due to Jonny Bairstow’s direct-hit.

During the second day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of England in Nottingham, India opening batsman Lokesh Rahul and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were involved in a huge mix-up which resulted in them losing another wicket in the afternoon session.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 44th over when Rahul defended an Ollie Robinson delivery towards Jonny Bairstow at backward point.

Still in the act of defending the ball, Rahul’s footwork was perhaps perceived as signal to sneak a run by Rahane. As a result, the non-striker was quick to respond to the extent that he committed himself into the run without any second thought.

While Rahul clearly refused the single, it was all too late for Rahane to return back to his crease especially after considering the distance he had traveled to complete a run.

With Bairstow putting on display a direct-hit, there wasn’t even a need for the on-field umpire to refer to the third umpire as India were reduced from 97/0 to 112/2 withing a span of 37 deliveries.

It was right before the lunch break that India opening batsman Rohit Sharma (36) had pulled a Robinson delivery to England all-rounder Sam Curran at fine leg. After the break, veteran England pacer James Anderson sent back Cheteshwar Pujara (4) and Virat Kohli (0) on successive deliveries to strengthen England’s hold on the match.
