India defeated Sri Lanka by 2 runs in a thrilling win against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was a brilliant win for the young Indian side, and the excellent catch of Ishan Kishan to dismiss Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka grabbed a lot of headlines as well.

Umran Malik was bowling the 8th over of the Sri Lankan innings, on the 5th ball, Umran bowled a shorter delivery and Asalanka tried to pull, but the ball went high courtesy of a thick outside edge. The ball hung in the air for a very long period, and Ishan ran towards the fine leg boundary and took an excellent catch with a full-length dive.
Harshal Patel was on the boundary, and it would have been an easier catch for him, but Ishan backed himself with gloves in hand, and he proved that the decision was right as well. Indian captain Hardik Pandya was awestruck looking at Ishan’s effort on the field.
Ishan Kishan reveals secret behind astonishing catch vs Sri Lanka
BCCI has released a video where Ishan Kishan was talking with the fielding coach T Dilip, and he revealed the secret behind the astonishing catch that he took. Kishan revealed that training played a very important part in completing that kind of catch as calling is quite important in such cases.
Ishan said that the Indian players missed a few catches in Bangladesh, and that’s why he was practicing high catches with the fielding coach. He insists that he wanted to go all-out for the catch in order to avoid any confusion with the fielder and was relieved that his hard work paid off.
“I think we have seen when we were playing in Bangladesh, there were a few catches which we missed because of calling, lack of proper sound while calling,” Ishan said.
“So I thought when I am going for a catch, I will go all-out, I would create confusion. So I called. Even when we were practicing, I was discussing with the coach that calling is very important. So we practiced this and we practiced high-catching with tennis rackets and soft balls. All the hard work paid off,” he added.
Apart from Ishan, Shivam Mavi also impressed on his debut, where he scalped four wickets. Mavi will play under Hardik’s captaincy again in the IPL as he was bought by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023 auction.
