New Zealand’s all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme announced his international retirement this year to focus on T20 leagues around the world. The tall all-rounder was famous for his different hairstyles and mustaches, and even his surname was quite special as ‘de Grandhomme’ is not a surname that is heard quite often.

Colin is currently playing in the Big Bash League for the Adelaide Strikers, and he will be available to play the full season for them. The retirement of Colin was a little surprising one as he was an important part of New Zealand’s setup in both red-ball and white-ball formats. His last international game was a test match against England at the Lord’s this year.
Colin made his debut for New Zealand way back in 2012 and his career lasted over 10 years. He represented New Zealand in 29 tests, 45 ODIs and 41 T20Is. Colin has also played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Colin de Grandomme’s surname really is quite intriguing as ‘de Grandomme’ is not a normal household surname. In an interview with the New Zealand cricket board, Colin himself told the meaning and the origin of his surname. He revealed that de Grandomme is a french word that means ‘Big House’, and can be referred to as ‘Big Man’ for humans.
Colin was born and brought up in Zimbabwe, his father Laurence Leonard de Grandhomme was a Zimbabwean cricketer. He finished his school in Zimbabwe and moved to New Zealand when he was around 18-19. Colin said that Auckland was looking for an overseas pro, so he tried his luck and never looked back.
Colin is married to Samantha Wells-Borell, who is a nurse by profession in New Zealand. There is no exact information about their children, but according to Samantha’s Insta bio, they have a child/children as well.
