Diamond duck in cricket: Nicholas Pooran gets out without facing a ball in PBKS vs SRH IPL 2021 match

Diamond duck: The overseas batsman from Punjab Kings was dismissed without a facing a delivery at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

During the 14th match of the 14th season of the ongoing Indian Premier League between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai, Punjab Kings have registered yet another shambolic start with the bat this season.

Playing their first match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kings struggled big time as adapting to conditions at the Chepauk appeared to be a daunting task for them.

Captain Lokesh Rahul (4), who had won the toss and chose to bat earlier, was the first batsman to get out as he played a Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivery straight to Kedar Jadhav at mid-wicket.

After a cautious start, opening batsman Mayank Agarwal (22) became the second Punjabi batsman to get out as his attempt to up the ante against Khaleel Ahmed resulted in his dismissal.

What is Diamond duck in cricket?

Promoted to No. 4 for the first time this season, Nicholas Pooran (0) registered a diamond duck when a slight miscommunication with veteran batsman Chris Gayle found him short of his crease. Pooran, who is yet to fire this season, had to walk back to the pavilion without even facing a delivery today.

It is worth mentioning that a “diamond duck” in cricket is defined as a scenario when a batsman gets out without even facing a delivery.

Soon afterwards, Kings also lost Gayle (15) as the southpaw was found wanting in front of the stumps against Sunrisers Hyderabad spinner Rashid Khan.

Been reduced to 47/4 in the ninth over, Kings desperately need a game-changing partnerships from the likes of Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan and their debutant pair of Moises Henriques and Fabian Allen.
