Faf du Plessis Injury Update: RCB Captain Comments on Playing IPL 2023 Match vs RR at M Chinnaswamy Stadium

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis admitted that he would’ve missed Indian Premier League 2023 Match 27 against Punjab Kings in Mohali had it not been for the newly-launched Impact Player rule.

With former RCB captain Virat Kohli returning to the leadership role for a match, he had made it clear at the toss that du Plessis would be participating as an Impact Player because he wouldn’t have to field in the second innings that way.

du Plessis, who suffered a minor rib injury in the previous match, was substituted by pacer Vijaykumar Vyashak to aid Royal Challengers in defending a 175-run target.

du Plessis, however, made it a point to make his presence felt at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium scoring 84 (56) with the help of five fours and as many sixes. In what was the 37-year old player’s 57th T20 half-century, it was his 29th in the biggest T20 tournament in the world.

Faf du Plessis Injury Update

Speaking to host broadcaster Star Sports Network from the dugout in the second innings, du Plessis explained a technical reason behind his inclusion on Thursday.

“Felt some pain around the rib region when I dived over a couple of matches back. Since it was to my right side, I felt I could bat. If not for the new rules, it would have been impossible for me to feature today. Feel I can be back on the field in the next game,” du Plessis told Star Sports.

For the unversed, du Plessis has suffered an injury towards his right rib. With the left side of a right-handed batter more dominant while batting, it paved way for du Plessis’ participation in the latest match.

Highest run-scorer this season thus far, Bangalore and their fans would be praying for du Plessis’ complete participation in the next match against Rajasthan Royals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
