"Forever Proud": Ajinkya Rahane's Wife Salutes Husband For Refusing Scans On Swollen Finger In WTC Final 2023

Radhika Dhopavkar, wife of Indian middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane, is filled with utmost pride for her husband for refusing scans on swollen finger of his right hand in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final against Australia at the Kennington Oval.

India, who have managed to take the match into Day 5 and are also in it with more than just an outside chance of victory, would have not been in this position had it not been for Rahane’s 26th Test half-century in the first innings. Most importantly, the innings was played without the Mumbai batter caring for his injury, which was severe enough to invite immediate medical attention while batting.

While the 35-year-old had revealed on Day 3 that his injury was manageable despite him being in pain, he did not take the field while Australia batted for the second time on Day 4.

However, he returned back with the bat in hand in a bid to yet again bail his team out of trouble. Batting patiently, he has stitched together an unbeaten 71-run partnership for the fourth wicket alongside former captain Virat Kohli at Stumps.

Present at The Oval alongside the wives of fellow Indian cricketers, Radhika made sure to heap praises of her husband for his selfless commitment to the team’s cause in an all-important ICC tournament final.

She made sure that the cricketing fraternity is aware how, in order to not let his mind divert towards the possible serious nature of his finger injury, he decided to opt against getting his swollen finger scanned.

Taking to her Instagram handle before the commencement of Saturday’s play, Radhika’s words were a reflection of the pride in her eyes for her ever-selfless husband. Describing Rahane using words like determination, unwavering resilience, commitment and team spirit in her post, her heart was perhaps full with overwhelming love and respect she has for her better-half.

“With unwavering resilience and commitment, you took your place at the crease, inspiring us all. I’m forever proud of your unwavering team spirit, my resilient partner. Love you endlessly!,” read a part of Radhika’s caption to her post which comprised pictures of Rahane battling with an injury in the middle of a fighting knock.

What Happened To Ajinkya Rahane?

The injury occurred on the final delivery of the 22nd over being bowled by the Aussie skipper Pat Cummins on Day 2. The right-arm pacer had managed to surprise Rahane with some extra bounce off his short delivery.

The painful blow on his right index finger required immediate medical attention as the physio scampered in with his meds. The immediate treatment did halt the match proceedings for quite some time, but the right-hander continued batting with a heavily taped finger.
