Happy Birthday Sourav Ganguly: Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and others post lovely wishes on BCCI President's 48th birthday

Happy Birthday Sourav Ganguly: The legendary Indian captain started to receive warm birthday wishes even before midnight.

Much like veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, his captain predecessor Sourav Ganguly also started to receive warm birthday wishes across social media platforms even before midnight.

Ganguly, who is the sitting President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, possesses a loyal fan-following on the back of his playing style especially the manner in which he led the Indian team during a tough phase a couple of decades ago.

India’s most successful captain of his time, Ganguly was subsequently surpassed by Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli. Having said that, the 48-year old still receives credit for instilling confidence among players of early 2000s especially youngsters like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and others.

Having scored 18,433 runs in 421 international appearances across formats at an average of 44.74 including 38 centuries, Ganguly is India’s fourth-highest run-scorer across formats.

A more than handy option with the ball in hand, Ganguly had dismissed 132 batsmen in his 16-year long international career.

Apart from leading India to the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, Ganguly biggest achievement as a captain lies in several landmark overseas Test victories; a facet which India had struggled for a long long time before him.

Happy Birthday Sourav Ganguly

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
