India vs England 2021 schedule: Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune to host bio-bubbles for England series

India vs England 2021 schedule: England will tour India for four Test matches, five T20Is and three ODIs next year.

Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune have been shortlisted as three venues which will host bio-bubbles during the England’s tour of India in 2021.

Originally scheduled to play a white-ball leg in September-October this year followed by a five-match Test series in February-March next year, the fixtures underwent a rejig due to the COVID-19 outbreak around the world.

After the white-ball leg was officially postponed in August, the dire nature of circumstances in India had even invited reports of Sri Lanka offering to host the Test series due to the limited number of COVID-19 case in the island nation.

As confirmed by former India captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly last month, England will play four Test matches, five T20Is and three ODIs in a tour which will be played between February 5 – March 28.

England, who confirmed the reschedule of a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka as recent as yesterday, will travel directly from Sri Lanka to Chennai for their first biosecurity bubble in India will be based down south.

MA Chidambaram Stadium, whose last Test match was the fifth one between India and England in 2016, will host the first and second Test against the same opposition next year.

England’s tour of India 2021 will also inaugurate the newly built Sardar Patel Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. The grand stadium which encompasses state-of-the-art facilities will host a pink-ball Test match to make its debut on February 24 before also hosting the fourth Test and a five-match T20I series.

The proceedings will then move to Pune which will host England for a three-match ODI series starting from March 23.

“The BCCI prioritises health and safety of both teams and will leave no stone unturned to make sure that the tour is held adhering to all safety protocols agreed by the BCCI and ECB medical teams.

“Both Boards have worked closely to put together an exciting series that promises to provide high octane action between two powerhouses of world cricket. This will be India’s first bilateral series at home since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the home season will bring back joy to cricket fans,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.
