Indian Premier League 2023 is up and running, and we have already seen many incredible batting performances in the season so far. The teams prefer chasing in this format of the game, and IPL 2023 has already been witness to exciting run-chases going down to the wire.

The highest run-chase in the history of IPL has been achieved by Rajasthan Royals against Punjab Kings in IPL 2020. Along with Rajasthan, Punjab’s name is also quite frequent in the list of the highest IPL chases.

Achieving a target of over 200 runs is not easy for any team, but throughout the history of the tournament, we have witnessed some huge targets being chased down. Let’s have a look at the list of the highest scores chased down in each season of the IPL.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2008

Rajasthan chased the highest target in IPL 2008 against Deccan Chargers. Deccan Chargers had scored 214/5 in the first innings, where late Andrew Symonds played an excellent knock of 117 (53) with the help of 11 fours and seven sixes.

RR chased down the target in 19.5 overs with three wickets to spare. Batter Graeme Smith and all-rounder Yusuf Pathan scored individual half-centuries in a successful run-chase.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2009

Kolkata Knight Riders had a rough IPL 2009 season, but they chased the biggest total of the season. Chennai Super Kings had scored 188/3 in the first innings, courtesy of a half-century from batter Suresh Raina.

The Knight Riders chased the target easily with seven wickets to spare. Captain Brendon McCullum and batter Brad Hodge scored respective half-centuries to help the side chase the target.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2010

Talking about the 2010 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore displayed their batting prowess against Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI batted first and posted a total of 203/3, where the opening duo of Manvinder Bisla and Ravi Bopara scored half-centuries each.

In response, RCB chased the target in just 18.5 overs with eight wickets remaining. All-rounder Jacques Kallis played a brilliant knock of 89* (55), whereas batter Robin Uthappa had scored 51 (21).

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2011

In 2011, Punjab chased the highest total of the tournament at Mohali’s PCA Stadium. Chennai posted a total of 188/4, where the batting duo of Murali Vijay and S Badrinath scored individual fifties.

While chasing, Punjab’s opener Paul Valthalty played a blockbuster knock of 120* (63) with the help of 19 boundaries and two sixes. The team won the match by 6 wickets in the end.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2012

A high-scoring encounter was played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in 2012, where the home side chased the highest target of the season. RCB batted first and posted a score of 205/8, where the star batting duo of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle scored half-centuries.

Chennai chased the target on the last ball, where batter Faf du Plessis played a fine knock of 71 (46) with the help of five boundaries and four sixes.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2013

Courtesy of batter David Miller’s masterclass, Punjab registered the highest run-chase in IPL 2013. RCB scored 190/3 in the first innings. The opening duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Gayle scored half-centuries.

Punjab chased the target in 18 overs courtesy of Miller’s outstanding knock of 101* (38) with the help of eight boundaries and seven sixes.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2014

The highest target in 2014 was chased by Punjab against Chennai in Abu Dhabi. Batting first, Chennai posted 205/4, where the opening duo of Brendon McCullum [67 (45)] and Dwayne Smith [66 (43)] was in fine touch.

Punjab chased the target in 18.5 overs with six wickets to spare. Glenn Maxwell played a knock of 95 (43), whereas Miller scored 54 (37).

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2015

In 2015, we did not witness many high-scoring run-chases. Playing at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi posted a total of 184/3, where interestingly none of the batters of the side could score a half-century. The batting trio of Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer and JP Duminy played decent cameos.

Rajasthan chased the target with 3 wickets to spare. Batter Deepak Hooda played a fine knock of 54 (25) to guide his team to victory.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2016

The new side Gujarat Lions displayed some brilliant batting performances in 2016, and they also secured the highest run-chase of the season. Rising Pune Super Giants scored 195/3 in the first innings, where batter Steve Smith smashed a brilliant century.

Gujarat chased the target with three wickets to spare, where Dwayne Smith played a knock of 63 (47) and McCullum scored 43 (22). The match went to the last ball.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2017

Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant’s blockbuster knock helped Delhi to achieve the highest run-chase of IPL 2017. Batting first, Gujarat Lions scored 208/7, where the batting duo of Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik scored brilliant half-centuries.

Delhi chased the big target in just 17.4 overs, where Pant scored 97 (43) with the help of nine sixes and six boundaries. Apart from Pant, Sanju Samson also played an outstanding knock of 61 (31).

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2018

Super Kings made their IPL return in 2018, and they registered some brilliant wins throughout the seasons. Playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home team RCB scored 205/8, courtesy of a half-century from AB de Villiers.

In return, CSK chased the target in 19.4 overs with 5 wickets to spare. Ambati Rayudu played a knock of 82 (52), whereas MS Dhoni was the finisher of the side, and he smoked seven sixes in his knock of 70 (34).

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2019

Kolkata’s all-rounder Andre Russell was a different beast during IPL 2019, and he once smacked the RCB bowlers in Bangalore. RCB scored 205/3, where Kohli and de Villiers smashed their individual half-centuries.

Russell’s express knock of 48* (13) with the help of seven sixes and one boundary helped KKR to register an emphatic win.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2020

Royals displayed some great batting performances in IPL 2020, and they achieved the three highest run-chases of the season. Playing in Sharjah, Punjab posted a huge score of 223/2, where Mayank Agarwal scored a century and captain KL Rahul scored a half-century.

For the Royals, all-rounder Rahul Tewatia smashed five continuous sixes to seal a famous win. Apart from Tewatia, Steve Smith (50) and Samson (85) also made vital contributions.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2021

Mumbai Indians won the title in 2021, and they achieved the highest run-chase of that season as well against Chennai in Delhi. The Super Kings posted a total of 218/4 with the help of half-centuries from du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Rayudu.

MI’s Kieron Pollard was at his best in that game, and he smashed 87* (37) with the help of eight sixes and six boundaries to register a six-wicket win.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2022

Lucknow Super Giants‘ chased the target of 211 runs against Chennai in their very first season. It was also the highest run-chase of the tournament. Chennai scored 210/5 with the help of Robin Uthappa’s half-century.

Lucknow chased the taget in the end, where the duo of Evin Lewis and Quinton de Kock scored their respective half-centuries. It was one of the best games of the tournament.

Highest Successful Run Chase in IPL 2023

This highest run-chase of the ongoing season has been achieved by Hyderabad, where they chased RR’s target of 215 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Rajasthan scored 214/2 in the first innings where Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson scored half-centuries. It was a very tough target but some incredible hitting at the end from Glenn Phillips and Abdul Samad ensured an incredible victory for Hyderabad.
