Why is Shivam Dube Not Playing Today's IPL 2023 Match Between CSK and DC at Chepauk?

Chennai Super Kings have made a solitary change to their Playing XI for Indian Premier League 2023 Match 55 against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium tonight. Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat in their penultimate league match at home.

“We will bat first. We have played a few games on this wicket. There are chances of this wicket slowing down. We can’t complain about this track. We try to keep it simple. We try to keep reiterating the same thing. Try to execute your plans,” Dhoni told host broadcaster Star Sports Network at the toss.

Coming on the back of a thunderous run-chase, Delhi captain David Warner wasn’t affected by the prospect of being asked to chase a target for the second time in a row.

“[Pitch] Looks a little bit dry. The boys have come out with the right attitude. We had to work on our powerplay batting. Try and execute on this wicket as much as you can,” Warner told Star Sports at the toss.

Is Shivam Dube Not Playing Today vs Delhi Capitals?

A successful season with the bat in hand thus far has seen CSK batter Shivam Dube amassing 290 runs at an average and strike rate of 36.25 and 156.75 respectively. However, considering how the 29-year old player had injured his finger while fielding in the last match against Mumbai Indians at the same venue, there were some doubts about his participation in this match.

Dube, however, is playing this match in spite of Dhoni mentioning that batter Ambati Rayudu has replaced him in the XI. Rayudu, who has been mostly playing as an Impact Player for the franchise this season, has replaced fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana in the XI.

As for what Dhoni said, he got confused which is not surprising under the Impact Player era. With Super Kings playing only three overseas players in the first innings, one expects Pathirana to bowl in the second innings.

Capitals, on the other hand, have made a lone change by bringing in all-rounder Lalit Yadav in place of batter Manish Pandey for the first innings.
