Ishan Kishan debut match: Kishan smashes first ball in ODI cricket for dominating six off Dhananjaya de Silva

Ishan Kishan hits first-ball six: The debutant Indian wicket-keeper batsman’s fearless approach impressed one and all.

During the first ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of Sri Lanka in Colombo, debutant India wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan ditched nerves to hit his first ball for a thumping six off Sri Lanka vice-captain Dhananjaya de Silva.

It all happened on the fourth delivery of the sixth over when Kishan stepped down the track to the off-spinner to hit him confidently down the ground.

Kishan, who had commenced his T20I career with a four earlier this year, impressed one and all with his gutsy approach at the highest level. Proving his first runs in ODIs as no fluke, Kishan followed it up with a four on the second delivery that he faced.

In de Silva’s following over, the left-handed batsman hit three consecutive fours to dominate the opposition. Kishan, who has turned 23 today, did give the home team a few catching opportunities by playing risky shots when not required. Having said that, that appears to be a ramification of a modern-day batsman wanting to dominate the opposition bowlers on a regular basis.

Kishan, who is nearing a maiden half-century, hasn’t let the run rate drop after opening batsman Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for a stroke-filled 43 (24) comprising of nine fours.

After Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bat in the afternoon, the hosts posted 262/9 in 50 overs on the back of Chamika Karunaratne scoring 43* (35) with the help of one four and two sixes. With bowling figures of 7-1-37-2, Deepak Chahar was the pick of the Indian bowlers at the R Premdasa Stadium today.
