KKR Captain Nitish Rana Forever Grateful to LSG Mentor Gautam Gambhir

There is no going into a safe house around the fact that Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir share a cordial bond with each other. Although they have never played together for India or any Indian Premier League franchise, playing a few matches for Delhi in the domestic circuit has been enough for them to have immense respect for each other.

While a childhood photo of Rana posing with a senior player in Gambhir has made its presence felt across social media platforms on more occasions than one, another photo of the two eating together in the same dressing room despite being part of rival teams on the eve of a Knight Riders vs Super Giants match had gone viral last week.

In spite of Lucknow defeating Kolkata in their last league match of the season, there was enough support for Gambhir in the stands which included posters of “Bring Back GG to KKR”. The same wasn’t a surprise by any means considering how Kolkata won both their IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 under Gambhir.

It is worth mentioning that Rana had also gifted Gambhir with a special KKR jersey after the conclusion of the match. Numbered 23 with GG written beneath it, Gambhir uploaded a photo of the same across his social media handles earlier in the day.

With Gambhir expressing pride in Rana, the latter thanked the former for teaching him a lot over the years. “Thank you @GautamGambhir  bhaiya. You and this jersey has taught me a lot over the years and I am forever grateful for that,” Rana wrote while retweeting Gambhir’s tweet.

Captaining an IPL team for the first time, Rana couldn’t lead his team to the playoffs as Knight Riders won six and lost eight matches under him to finish at the seventh position on the points table. Super Giants, meanwhile, are the third-ranked team and will be facing Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 Eliminator at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
