Kolkata Knight Riders is certainly one of the fan-favourite franchises, but they have not been able to play at their best in the last few seasons. They made it to the final of IPL 2021, but the pitches favoured them a lot in the tournament. The two-time champions are looking to add another trophy to their cabinet.

Ahead of the auction, the team decided to retain the core where captain Shreyas Iyer along with players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Tim Southee, Nitish Rana, Varun Chakravarthy, etc were all retained by the franchise, and they were very active in the trading window as well.

The Knight Riders traded the duo of Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz from Gujarat Titans, whereas they got Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals. The trades of Ferguson and Shardul certainly look a lot from their auction budget, and it will be interesting to see if these two players can prove the move right.

Looking at the purse of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023 auction, it was certain that the side won’t be able to buy expensive players in the auction, and the same thing happened as well. They had 11 spots left in the team, but they opted to fill just eight out of them.

Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was their costliest buy and they paid INR 1.5 crores for his services. Shakib has played for KKR in the past as well, and he is a good addition. They have also added Bangladesh’s Litton Das, who really impressed in the last T20 World Cup.

Namibia’s David Wiese also got the nod in the auction, and KKR paid INR 1 crores for his services. N. Jagadeesan had a great domestic season and getting him for INR 90 lacs is a good business by the franchise as well. Apart from them, experienced Punjab batter Mandeep Singh also got his place in the side.
