The iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host Indian Premier League 2021 season opener between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore tomorrow.
Chennai, a cricket-loving city which has hosted in vicinity of 50 IPL matches till date, is one of the six shortlisted venues for IPL 2021. Alongside the Wankhide Stadium in Mumbai, MA Chidambaram Stadium will host the first leg of the league phase before the proceedings move to Ahmedabad and Delhi.
In a pre-COVID world, Chennai would have continued its status of being the home ground for IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings. However, with no team playing a league match on its home ground this season, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led team won’t be playing at their “den”.
