MCC Tie: Why Do Fans Wear Red And Yellow Tie At Lord's?

MCC Tie is a long-standing tradition followed by fans who come to visit Test matches at the iconic Lord’s stadium. Even viewers who have not been to this venue recognize how a large number of people wear a particular yellow and red tie in a particular stand of the stadium.

The tie is made up of non-crease woven silk and its average length is 147 cm with a 9.5 cm blade width. It is to be noted that not everyone can wear the iconic MCC Tie. Only registered members and associate members of the MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) are allowed to wear this club tie.

Lord’s is called the ‘Mecca of Cricket’ and the spectators also have to maintain dressing hygiene in order to watch a match. There are some dress codes even for entering the stadium. The strictness about the same changes with respect to the stands people are sitting in.

Why Do Fans Wear Red And Yellow Tie At Lord’s?

The colour of the MCC originally used to be sky blue and was replaced by iconic Red and Yellow in Victorian times. There is no reason why these two colours were chosen. There are different unproven theories about the same. Whatever the origin is, these are one of the most famous club colours.

The spectators in the pavilion have a strict dress code. Gentlemen need to wear a tailored jacket or blazer along with a collared shirt that is tucked into tailored trousers, chinos, corduroys or moleskin trousers with a tie or cravat. It is mandatory to wear a tie but wearing the MCC tie is not compulsory.

Due to the heat wave in 2021, the spectators were allowed to come without a jacket or blazer. Ladies need to wear a dress, skirt or tailored trousers with a smart top or blouse, or other clothing that is appropriately formal.

MCC Tie Price

The official MCC tie from authorized stores costs around £60 (approx INR 6,258). As mentioned earlier, not everyone can buy this tie. At the time of checkout, the registration number has to be entered in order to complete the payment. Dege & Skinner is one of the official manufactures.

There is no way possible to buy the tie in India but there are some online stores that sell a replica of it. Even the replicas cost more than INR 4,000.
