Former Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj is one of the legends of the game. She announced her retirement from cricket last year. Raj has scored the most number of runs in women’s international cricket. The 41-year-old former cricketer is not married yet.

Raj belongs to a Tamilian family, and she was born in Jodhpur in 1982. She made her debut in 1999 in an ODI match and scored an unbeaten century in her very first match only. Raj is also the first woman to play 200 ODI matches.

Raj’s career has been full of awards and honours. She won Arjuna Award in 2003, Padma Shri in 2015 and Khel Ratna in 2021. Raj is the first female cricketer to be the Khel Ratna, the country’s highest sporting honour.

In an interview with Mid-Day in 2018, Raj had revealed that she is very happy being single, and the idea of marriage is not something that comes across her mind. She admitted that he used to think about marriage when she was young, and that’s not the case anymore.

“It (marriage) used to [cross my mind]… long time back, when I was very young. But it doesn’t cross [my mind] now when I see married people. I am very happy being single,” Mithali Raj had said.

Raj once said that she does not get attention from male fans like the men’s cricketers get from their female fans.

“To be honest, I don’t really get attention the same way that the men’s team gets from their female fans,” Mithali Raj had said to Sportskeeda.

Raj is the mentor of Gujarat Giants in the WPL 2023. Beth Mooney is the captain of Gujarat Giants, and the team is owned by the Adani Group. Former Australian batter Rachael Haynes is the captain of the side. This is Raj’s first assignment as a mentor, she was a part of the commentary team in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
