Most ODI wickets for England: Chris Woakes dismisses Pathum Nissanka to pick 150th ODI wicket in Chetser-le-Street ODI

Chris Woakes dismisses Pathum Nissanka: The English all-rounder made early inroads into the Sri Lankan batting lineup today.

During the first ODI of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of England in Chester-le-Street, England all-rounder Chris Woakes made the most of an opportunity of bowling with the new ball registering bowling figures of 5-4-6-2 in his first spell.

It was on the fourth delivery of the fifth over when Woakes sent back Sri Lanka opening batsman Pathum Nissanka (5) to the dressing room after the right-handed batsman pulled a short delivery straight to England all-rounder Moeen Ali at short mid-wicket.

In the process, Woakes became the sixth and the fastest England bowler to surpass the 150-wicket mark in ODIs. Playing his first ODI after more than nine months, Woakes’ disciplined lines and lengths saw him also dismissing Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka (1) as he was left with not many options than to edge a peach of a delivery to England wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow.

Winning the toss for the first time in fourth outing against Sri Lanka, it was England captain Eoin Morgan who had invited the visitors in to bat first at the Riverside Ground.

Among other feats in this match, England batsman Joe Root and pacer David Willey are playing their 150th and 50th ODI respectively.
