We are not even a month away to mark the end of a calendar year of action-packed Cricket, with England ending it on a high by lifting their second T20 World Cup title.

The English Test side however, had to begin the year having already lost the away Ashes series against Australia 0-3 the previous year, with two Tests yet to be played.
While they managed to draw the fourth Test, they won the fifth one by 146 runs to lose the series by 3-1, and thereby also lose yet another opportunity to win an Ashes series in Australia, with the last one coming during the 2010/11 season.
The remaining international fixtures this year include India’s tour of Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests, South Africa’s tour of Australia for three Tests and as many ODIs, and finally New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan for two Tests, and a three-match ODI series finishing by January next year.
Most runs in 2022 in all formats
Test
England’s wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow began the year with a fine century – 113 off 158 balls, against Australia during the fourth Ashes Test.
He continued batting in his merry way throughout the year, and smashed a total of six centuries and a half-century across 19 innings (10 Tests) this year.
He amassed 1,061 runs across these 10 Tests at an average of 66.31, and is presently the highest run-scorer in the format this year.
Former England skipper Joe Root, with 996 runs across 23 innings this year might well overtake Bairstow, with the former yet to play a couple of more Tests this year against Pakistan.
ODI
With much of the focus on the T20 World Cup, top-international teams did not play much One-Dayers against each other this year.
The top-5 highest run getters this year in ODIs are players from Associate nations in Namibia, USA, UAE, and Scotland.
Namibia’s Gerhard Erasmus will remain the leading run-scorer in ODIs this year, with 883 runs across 19 innings at an average of 58.86, and with the help of 7 half-centuries and a century.
T20Is
It turned out to be a fairy tale of a year for India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who will end 2022 as the highest run-getter in T20Is.
The right-handed batter has batted at an unbelievable consistency with an average of 46.56, while also managing to strike at 187.43 across 31 T20I innings.
With the help of 9 half-centuries and a couple of centuries, Yadav has amassed 1,164 runs this year and will remain at the top-spot with no more T20Is scheduled to be played this month.
Highest run scorer in international cricket in 2022
5th highest run-scorer in T20Is this year, 8th in the ODIs so far, and 9th in Test format with at six possible innings yet to be played, Pakistan’s skipper across all formats Babar Azam will emerge as the highest run-getter in international Cricket in 2022.
Babar’s overall run tally at present this year, includes 735 T20I runs (26 innings), 679 ODI runs (9 innings), and 661 Test runs (9 innings), which equals to 2,075 runs so far.
