MS Dhoni Stumping Record in IPL: Who has Affected Maximum Stumping Dismissals in Indian Premier League?

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni registered a field day at the MA Chidambaram Stadium tonight. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Dhoni led his team instrumentally well to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad to 134/7 in 20 overs.

Part of three dismissals on the back of splendid work behind the stumps, Dhoni was involved in a catch, stumping and run-out each. Dhoni, 41, put on display his supreme glovework which was complemented by acrobatic skills to rewind the clock for yet another time in the ongoing 16th season of the Indian Premier League.

It was on the penultimate delivery of the 13th over when Dhoni successfully and confidently grabbed a sharp catch which came via a faint tickle off counterpart Aiden Markram‘s (12) bat. In the following over, Dhoni was calm enough to collect a faster Ravindra Jadeja (3/22) delivery to stump batter Mayank Agarwal (2) without giving him any chance of returning back into the crease.

Dhoni’s third contribution on the field came off the last ball of the innings when he nailed a direct-hit to deny Sunrisers all-rounders Washington Sundar (9) and Marco Jansen (17*) a bye.

It is worth mentioning that Dhoni held the record for maximum stumping dismissals in the biggest T20 league across the globe even before his match. Agarwal’s dismissal has further extended his lead over veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik.

Been playing in the IPL since its inaugural season in 2008, Dhoni has affected 40 dismissals across 233 innings as a wicket-keeper.
