During the second day of the fourth Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia in Brisbane, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma got off to an impressive start but once again ended up gifting his wicket to the opposition.
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 20th over when Sharma’s attempt to clear the boundary off Australia spinner Nathan Lyon led to his dismissal.
Playing his 100th Test at the Gabba, Lyon deceived Sharma with the dip as the latter mis-timed a big hit. Australia spearhead Mitchell Starc, who was fielding at long-on, covered a fair amount of distance before completing a clean catch.
Having scored an effortless 44 (74) with the help of six fours, Sharma let down one and all with his shot selection once again on this tour. With the Indian innings finding stability, there was not much need for Sharma to play an aerial shot especially with two fielders guarding the boundary on the leg-side.
With Pat Cummins sending back his Kolkata Knight Riders-teammate Shubman Gill (7) with the new ball, India went in to tea with 62/2 in 28 overs.
In the morning session, Indian bowlers did pretty well to dismiss Australia on 369 in 115.2 overs. With bowling figures of 24.3-3-78-3, debutant T. Natarajan was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
