"Super excited": Suresh Raina expresses excitement ahead of joining CSK squad for IPL 2021

Suresh Raina expresses excitement: The former Indian batsman will play in the Indian Premier League after a couple of years.

The forthcoming 14th season of the Indian Premier League will witness the presence of former India batsman and Chennai Super Kings vice-captain Suresh Raina after a couple of years.

Raina, who had skipped the last season of the cash-rich league in the UAE, was retained by the franchise earlier this year. Having announced retirement from international cricket last year, IPL 2021 will be Raina’s first IPL season as a retired player.

Barring aside five T20s for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January, Raina hasn’t played any competitive cricket since IPL 2019. In his most recent five outings for his state, Raina’s 102 runs had come at an average and strike rate of 34 and 115.90 respectively. Raina, who also bowled seven overs across two innings, picked a lone wicket at an economy rate of 5.42.

Raina, 34, took to social media platform Twitter to express excitement with respect to joining the squad ahead of IPL 2021. It all started after Raina posted a video on his Instagram account where he is seen indulging in an open net session in Ghaziabad.

In the 30-second video, the southpaw plays some exquisite shots giving a hint to his fans regarding what they should expect in IPL 2021. The video was then shared by Super Kings on their Twitter handle. While a lot of players are part of a training camp in Chennai, Raina is reportedly expected to join the squad anytime next week.

In the IPL auction last month, Super Kings splurged a total of INR 82.45 crore for six players to fill their 25-player quota for the tournament.
