Top 4 Qualified Teams for IPL 2023 Playoffs
The dream to lift a maiden Indian Premier League title will have to wait yet another year for Royal Challengers Bangalore as they lost their must-win, last league match of the ongoing 16th season, against defending champions Gujarat Titans by 6 wickets.
With three teams having already sealed their playoffs berth by last night, it was the day for filling in that final spot before the tournament gets underway with the next round from the day after tomorrow.
With Mumbai Indians having registered a comprehensive victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier in the day, all they needed was RCB to lose against GT in the recently concluded match.
Thus, with 16 points under their belt after the end of league stage, MI take the fourth spot and qualify for the playoffs. RCB, on the other hand, end the season with 14 points and at the sixth spot on the table.
Top 4 Qualified Teams for IPL 2023 Playoffs
Defending champions Gujarat extended their stellar run from the previous season and had become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs, much before the remaining three teams confirmed their respective berths.
Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants had won their respective last league match yesterday and sealed the second and third spot respectively in the points table.
Thus, Gujarat and Chennai will square off in ‘Qualifier 1’, while Mumbai and Lucknow will face each other in the ‘Eliminator’ fixture.
