"Unko Lagta Hai Main Bimaar Hoon": Virat Kohli Reveals How His Mother Is Always Concerned About His Lean Physique

“There’s no heart in the world as beautiful as a mother’s”. The old adage applies universally to all mothers regardless the various social and economic disparities in society. Former India captain Virat Kohli‘s mother, Saroj Kohli, is no different when it comes to worrying for her son’s well-being or addressing her fears with regard to a possible decrease in his appetite.

During a recent interaction with renowned presenter Jatin Sapru for the Star Sports Network, Kohli remarked how he has always derived his happiness by providing his mother the simplest of things which makes her happy.

The former Indian captain even remarked how this caring side of his personality gradually grew as a trait within him ever since he lost his father at the age of 18. Thus, naturally, an ever-growing bond with his mother and her love for him doesn’t really bother to care about the modern-day fitness regime of athletes.

Virat Kohli Reveals How His Mother Is Always Concerned About His Lean Physique

Narrating vividly about his mother’s concerns for him, Kohli revealed how she would call her every other evening and ask him about his deteriorating health. The 34-year-old opined that while scores of people are inquisitive about his fitness routine, his mother is concerned as to why he’s not having paranthas!

Log fitness ki baatein kar rahe hote hain, woh shaam ko phone karengi match ke baad ki ‘Kitne kamzor lag rahe ho, kuch khaate kyun nahi?’ Maine kaha, ‘Yaar, ek taraf log pooch rahe hain ki kya kar rahe ho, aur ek taraf meri mummy bol rahi hai ki paranthe nahi khaate tum.’ Unko lagta hai main bimaar hun. 8-9 saalon se main bimaar hun. Mujhse kuch nahi keh raha, bata nahi raha hai mujhe! [People are constantly talking about my fitness and my mother would call me in the evening after matches and would be like, ‘Why do you look so weak?’ I am like, on one end people are asking me about my fitness routine, and my mother on the other end is telling me why I ain’t having Paranthas! She thinks that I’m ill. I’ve been ill for the past 8-9 years, and I’m not deliberately letting her know.]

“Feel Happy When I Go Back Home” – Kohli

Earlier during the interaction, Kohli had remarked that since he is quite well settled in his professional life, he feels content and happy only when he is at home. He even went on to state that so many times after playing a certain match, the first thing he wishes is to take a flight back home.

The 34-year-old ended by saying that while it is important to focus on building a career for oneself it is important to taper off a bit from the hectic professional life as well, else the quality of life is bound to deteriorate.
