CSK and SRH engage in hilarious Twitter battle over Rashid Khan and Jonny Bairstow during England vs Afghanistan match at Manchester

Indian Premier League franchises CSK and SRH engaged themselves in a rather hilarious Twitter battle while the England vs Afghanistan match was in play at The Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday.

It is worth mentioning that two key players from the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were up against each other in a World Cup clash for their respective national teams. While Rashid Khan is the most vital cog in the Afghanistan bowling wheel, Jonny Birstow is the finest opening batsman England have at in the limited-overs format.

Contrasting games for Rashid and Bairstow

The England batting line-up, as was on expected lines absolutely destroyed the Afghanistan bowling attack as they piled up a nearly unattainable total of 397/6 in 50 overs. While the English skipper Eoin Morgan, stole the limelight with his record-breaking 148 off 71 deliveries, there were useful contributions from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow as well.

Carrying on with his sublime form, Bairstow scored a classy 90 off 99 deliveries with the help of 8 fours and 3 sixes, thereby providing yet another excellent start to his team.

Afghanistan, considering the brilliant start by the English top-order had high hopes on their best bet- Rashid Khan. But, to everyone’s surprise he proved to be the worst bowler for the Afghan bowling attack that day, going for 110 runs in 9 overs.

His figures of 9-0-110-0 were not only turned out to be the worst figures in the entire match, but also in the history of World Cup. He was hit for as many as 11 sixes, including 7 by Eoin Morgan alone.

CSK and SRH begin the fun

Taking pride from the innings played by Jonny Bairstow, his IPL Franchise SRH, after the end of the English innings posted a revering message for Baisrtow on their Twitter handle, bearing the caption- ” “With a 99-ball 90, Bairstow was so close to his maiden World Cup century! A brilliant knock nevertheless.”

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Twitter team were quick to pounce on SRH’s tweet, reminding them of the thrashing that their other player- Rashid Khan received during the course of the innings.

Taking a clear dig at SRH and Rashid, CSK immediately tweeted with the captain- ” “That 54-ball-110 would have been painful though!”

The two franchises then resorted to some exchanges in Tamil, further extending the innocuous social media battle.
