Harbhajan Singh expects assistance from Chennai wicket

Harbhajan Singh expects assistance from Chennai wicket: The veteran spinner was opened up on the pitch, crowd and CSK’s strengths before IPL 2019.

Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh is gearing up for the 12th season of the Indian Premier League. Having played for a decade for Mumbai Indians, this will be Harbhajan’s second IPL season with the Super Kings. In a recent interview, Harbhajan opened up about a major factor in the franchise’s success over the years.

“CSK have always retained a group and the continuity has played a major factor in the team’s success apart from the fact that they have always had some incredible players,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying.

On the back of the Cauvery Dispute, Super Kings played most of their home matches in Pune last year. Not deterred by the change of venue in a season where they were making a comeback after two years, Super Kings went on to register their third IPL title.

“We had to move to Pune but the mood in the team was positive. We won a few very, very tight games, and when you win games like those it lifts the morale of the team, instills a lot of self-belief,” Harbhajan said.

Being asked about what led them to victory last season, Harbhajan pinpointed the experience of all the senior players. “We played fearless cricket last season and the experience of the seniors, skill wise, made a big difference,” Harbhajan further said.

Harbhajan confident of CSK’s chances for IPL 2019

Laying emphasis on match-winners in the squad, the seasoned cricketer gave signs of being positive ahead of IPL 2019. “It’s a calm and composed team and if we play the same brand of cricket, I’m sure we will do well. The team has got enough match-winners,” he added.

The wicket at Chennai usually favours the spinners. With the Super Kings having them in plenty, one expects their bowlers to come good in the imminent season. Other than the conditions, Harbhajan also talked about the passionate crowd which comes in CSK’s support during the IPL.

“Chennai has been traditionally spin-friendly and spinners have always done well. Having bowled for 10 seasons for Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium where it is tough for spinners, I’m looking forward to bowling in helpful conditions.

“I’ve got some great memories here. This is one of my favorite grounds. Looking forward to playing here, the atmosphere is terrific, like Sunday’s practice game 12000 spectators turned up. I have never seen such kind of support anywhere,” Harbhajan concluded.
