ICC announces new ODI Rankings

South Africa’s recent triumph in the ODI series against Sri Lanka propelled several top players in the latest ICC ODI Rankings. Despite losing their No.3 ODI rank to New Zealand after consecutive defeats in the final two games of the series, the players can be satisfied with their performances.

Leading wicket taker for the Proteas, Lungi Ngidi saw a major rise in the rankings having climbed up 57 spots to grab the 88th place. While Kagiso Rabada secured the 8th position after scalping 6 wickets in the series.

All rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and spinner Tabraiz Shamsi’s exploits in the series reflected in the rise in their rankings.

As far as the batsmen are concerned, JP Duminy stood out from the rest with 227 runs under his belt in the five match series. The Mumbai Indians all-rounder was named the man of the series and also jumps 11 spots to claim the 40th place.

Wicket Keeper batsman Quinton De Kock also managed to secure his 7th position while there was a steep decline for the other batsmen. The injured Faf Du Plessis lost his spot in the top 10 spot while the struggling Hashim Amla dropped to the 14th place.

South Africa are currently in a tough phase as they cope up with the loss of Ab De Villiers and will look to slowly build a core to contend for the coveted World Cup in 2019.

With respect to the Indian players, India’s top 3 find a place in the top 10 of the batsman rankings.

In the bowler rankings, Bumrah leads the pack . The Indian spin twins also find a spot in the top 10.
