Danny Welbeck new contract: Arsenal are preparing to offer a new contract for Danny Welbeck, according to reports.

Danny Welbeck has been a revelation for the Gunners in the new season under Unai Emery. He has played an important role as a squad player for the manager so far, but his season came to a halt in the Europa League game against Sporting Lisbon last week.

He suffered an ankle injury, and while he has had two successful operations, his arrival date is yet unknown. Welbeck, however, has begun his rehabilitation process.

The English striker’s contract at the club expires this summer, and there have been speculations surrounding his future at Arsenal. After Aaron Ramsey confirmed that he would leave the side at the end of the season after failing to sign a new contract, the rumors surrounding Welbeck’s future gathered pace.

However, BBC journalist David Ornstein has now given an update on Danny Welbeck’s current contractual situation, and it might come as a delight to Arsenal fans.

Danny Welbeck new contract:

Ornstein has reported that the discussions for a new contract have begun between Welbeck and Arsenal.

“I think there have been some initial discussions about now offering Welbeck a contract, if the numbers are right for the club, bearing in mind he could be out for a while,” Ornstein told Arseblog, via CannonInsider.

The journalist dismissed the role of sentiments, and insisted that the striker is valued highly at the club.

“I don’t think it’s a sentimental thing, but they value him very highly at Arsenal,” he said.

Welbeck has scored five goals this season in fourteen appearances for the side. The striker joined Arsenal in 2014, and has since appeared in 88 Premier League game for the club, scoring 16 goals.

What next?

Arsenal will return to Premier League this weekend as they take on Bournemouth, who are 6th in the table.

The Gunners will look to end a frustrating run of draws as they take on Eddie Howe’s side. Arsenal have played three consecutive draw games against Palace, Liverpool and Wolves in the Premier League, which pushed them down to fifth place in the table.
