During the fourth match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between Afghanistan and Australia at Bristol, Australia defeated Afghanistan by 7 wickets to start their World Cup journey on a winning note.
Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib’s decision to bat first after winning the toss didn’t go too well for him as the Australian bowlers reduced the opposition to 207 in 38.2 overs. With bowling figures of 8.2-0-40-3, Australia fast bowler Pat Cummins was the pick of their bowlers.
Other than Cummins, leg-spinner Adam Zampa and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis dismissed three and two batsmen respectively.

Australia captain Aaron Finch’s brisk 22nd ODI half-century was an apt platform for the others to gain on the advantage and seal the chase. The same eventually happened as opening batsman David Warner (89) and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (4) brought the chase to an end in the 35th over.

It is worth mentioning that the ODI was Warner’s first since January 2018. The southpaw was banned for a year due to his involvement in the Cape Town Ball Tampering Scandal. Since Warner has served his punishment, one sees no reason for people to boo him now.
Warner was not the only Australian cricketer to receive such a treatment yesterday. Steven Smith, who was also banned for a year due to same reason, was greeted with booing when he came out to bat. The duo received the same treatment during Australia’s warm-up match against England.
While Smith scored a century during the warm-up match, Warner playing a responsible innings in Australia’s tournament opener was the perfect answer to his critics.
