Steve Smith century vs England: Twitter reactions on Smith’s hundred in 2019 World Cup Warm-up Match vs England
Steve Smith century vs England: Twitter was elated to witness Steve Smith score an amazing century in warm-up match vs England.
During the ongoing warm-up match for the ICC Cricket Cricket World Cup 2019 between England and Australia at Southampton, Australia batsman Steven Smith scored an impressive hundred to propel his team to 297/9 in their allotted quota of 50 overs.
After stand-in England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and put the visitors in to bat, almost all Australian batsmen got to starts. However, it was only Smith who converted his start into a significant score. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the 17th over, Smith 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket alongside Usman Khawaja (31).
It was during this partnership that Smith completed his half-century on the penultimate ball of the 33rd over. With Khawaja getting out in the next over, Smith took the onus on himself of steering Australia to a competitive total.
It was a brisk 42-run stand for the sixth wicket alongside wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey (30) which saw Australia gaining momentum in the slog overs. On the second delivery of the 48th over, Smith ran a single off England all-rounder Ben Stokes to reach the three-figure mark.
Before getting caught and bowled off Tom Curran on the penultimate delivery of the innings, Smith ended up scoring 116 (102) with the help of eight fours and three sixes. With bowling figures of 9-0-69-4, Liam Plunkett was the pick of the bowlers for England.
In 12 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals, Smith had scored 319 runs at an average of 39.87 and a strike rate of 116 including three half-centuries. With him scoring a century now, Australia will be relieved to see their premier batsman among the runs.

That’s Steve Smith’s fourth straight half-century since returning to the Australian side – 89*, 91* and 76 in his previous three knocks. Sure, they’ve all been practice games, but he looks in terrific touch #CWC19
