Watch the video of Matthijs De Ligt’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur.
Donny Van de Beek’s goal was the separation line between Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg. Just like the last game, the Dutch outfit started the game on a high ante and piled up pressure on Mauricio Pochettino’s side. There were no clear cut chances, but the English outfit conceded a goal early in the game when Ajax’s Skipper Matthijs De Ligt scored from a corner.
Keiran Trippier marked the Dutch International, but the 19-year-old made life difficult by changing directions and give no clue to mark him properly. De Ligt got away from Trippier and scored a thumping header to extend the aggregate scoreline by 2-0 in the tie.
Having already scored against Juventus in the previous round, De Ligt bagged the second goal of his debut Champions League campaign. He was left unmarked and he took full advantage unlike the goal against the Italian outfit, where he had to make a giant leap to get something behind the header.
The goal was referred by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for an alleged push on Jan Vertonghen, but the referee decided to wave on and point to Ajax’s goal.

Ajax have a firm grip on this tie, but Spurs are slowly getting to their normal groove by sweating the backline of the Dutch outfit. Heung Min Son had an excellent chance, but he was not able to bury that chance.
The scoreline remains unaltered for the next 20 mins after Matthijs De Ligt opened the scoring in the 4th minute.
