Tottenham Hotspur invited Ajax for the first leg of the Champions League Semifinals to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. An even encounter was expected between these two sides, but the visitors are looking in supreme command in the first half.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are not able to hold possession and pass the ball as they would normally do. Ajax are fearless in their approach and are taking the game to their opponents’ box. They are totally piling pressure on Spurs who are struggling to break down Ajax.
Ajax not only keep possession and move the ball quickly, but their instant reflexes to win the second ball is making them a huge threat. By winning every single duel in the pitch, the Dutch outfit opened the scoring through their attacking midfielder Donny Van de Beek who had plenty of time to tuck the ball inside the back of the net.
Hakim Ziyech faked a shot and found a small margin of a gap in the defence and threaded a ball to find Donny Van de Beek. When Spurs defence went to sleep, Donny Van de Beek received the ball from the Morrocan and found the back of the net from close range when Hugo Lloris was totally committed.
The goal was checked by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) which showed Keiran Tripper play the attacking midfielder onside. The Spurs defence tried to hold a high line, but the full-back let the whole team down by staying onside.
