Arsenal were comprehensively outplayed by City on Sunday
While not even the most faithful of Arsenal supporters had envisaged the club defeating Manchester City, it was the underwhelming showing by the club which left many aghast.
Going down in the second minute itself as Rob Holding allowed Raheem Sterling to win a header over him, Arsenal never managed to claw back from the early setback. The club was utterly outshone and decimated by Manchester City to allow the league leaders to breeze through to a 1-0 win on the day.
Arsenal’s third defeat in four matches left the club way adrift of a top 6 spot with the club’s supporters berating the side’s horrendous showing. And it weren’t only the supporters who were infuriated with the club with Garth Crooks tearing into Arsenal’s listless display as well.
Crooks Miffed With Arsenal
Speaking after the tie, Crooks highlighted a moment featuring City’s Ederson to showcase just how easy City had it on the night.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game quite like it,” Crooks said. “A match played practically at walking pace at times and where the champions-elect were just allowed to coast by Arsenal.
“There was even a moment when Ederson appeared so bored he totally unnecessarily volleyed a back pass off his goal-line straight back to the opposition for the fun of it.
“This surely can’t go on. There was no attempt by Arsenal to mix it and play a game that would make nice ball-players feel uncomfortable, put them under pressure or even harass them.
“At this rate Ruben Dias will play the game until he’s 47.
“The Portugal international is about to win the Premier League title without so much as a scratch and that can’t be right.
“Is somebody going to make it uncomfortable for City? What is the English game coming to?”
The win for City took them to their 17th win in succession. The club is currently 10 points clear in first place with many having already gone onto write the season’s title in the table toppers’ favour.
