Ajax signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen earlier this week. However, a video has resurfaced where Edwin van der Sar is seen punishing the keeper!
Ajax has been one of the most impressive European sides this season.
The Dutch club is in the semifinal of the Champions League. Ajax defeated Real Madrid and Juventus to reach the final four of the European competition.
Erik Ten Hag’s men beat the odds as they produced beautiful football and thoroughly outclassed both of their opponents in the knock-out stages. The side now faces Tottenham in the semifinal, who defeated fellow Premier League side Manchester City in a dramatic showdown.
Ajax, meanwhile, has also begun their transfer activities for the next summer and signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen. However, a video has resurfaced following the signing, which shows the club’s CEO Edwin van der Sar and director for football Marc Overmars seemingly punishing the goalkeeper!
Edwin van der Sar punishing new signing?! What’s the deal?
Don’t worry. It’s all in good spirits.
Kjell Scherpen grew up supporting Feyenoord, who are Ajax’s biggest rivals in the Netherlands. The game between both the sides is popularly called ‘De Klassieker’, and their rivalry has been historic.
And so, when Scherpen joined Ajax, the club decided to film a joke video.
In the video, the goalkeeper is seen writing “Ajax is the most beautiful club in the Netherlands” for 1000 times!
Here’s the video:
Ajax’s new signing Kjell Scherpen, who was a Feyenoord fan growing up, was forced to write 1,000 times “Ajax is the most beautiful club in the Netherlands” by Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar after joining.
