$17 Million hit drops Lewis Hamilton below Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is the highest-paid F1 driver on the grid. But his bad luck in the 2022 season has dropped him way below in the list of the top earners of 2022.

The Mercedes F1 team saw the end of its 8 years of dominance in the sport in the 2022 season. Following the problems, Hamilton had the worst ever season of his career after failing to secure even a single win.

According to Forbes, his earnings in the 2021 season were $82 Million but in 2022, his earnings dropped to $65 Million taking a $17 Million hit.

Due to this, he dropped to 8th on the list of the highest-earning athletes in the world in 2022. Football star Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list with $200 Million while Lionel Messi stood 4th with $75 Million.

How did Lewis Hamilton suffer a $17 Million hit?

Forbes’ list of top earners is calculated based on the athlete’s income in their sport combined with extra revenue from outside the sport.

In 2022, Hamilton earned $57 Million from F1 and his revenue from outside the sport was valued at $8 Million.

While his earnings dropped from $70 Million in 2021 to $57 Million in 2022, his revenue from external sources increased from $8 Million to $12 Million.

Hamilton vacations in Antarctica on a $243 Million yacht

The 7-time world champion spent his winter break in the coldest place on earth, Antarctica. He posted a video of himself going on a 7-mile run on a trail alongside Penguins and seals.

Other videos on the internet showcased the Mercedes star hanging out with close friends including Shaun White and his wife Nina Dobrev.

The videos of Hamilton also sparked gossip about his new girlfriend, if there is any. The gossip exploded after a video posted by White captured a woman sitting cosily next to the Mercedes star.

As per the Sun’s report, the mega yacht on which the Briton was holidaying costs $243 Million and is called the Octopus. The luxury yacht costs $2.19 Million a week to charter.
