After Impacting 7,423,967 Listeners, Charles Leclerc Reveals Humble Inspiration Behind Peculiar Song Names

Charles Leclerc is no ordinary Formula 1 driver. The Monegasque has recently delved into the world of music and has found immense success already. Apart from being incredibly soothing to the ear, one thing that has stood out about his music is the peculiar names of the song. Leclerc recently explained his thought process behind naming his pieces in such a weird way.

Leclerc used to play his brother Arthur’s piano when he was a child. He fully used the lockdown period and honed his skills at playing the instrument. After Formula 1 restarted racing following the COVID period, Leclerc started to use the time between the races to practice playing. He started inventing his own pieces of music and putting them up on Instagram. After noticing the positive response, Leclerc went ahead and published them on other platforms as well.

To say that Leclerc’s songs have been successful would be an understatement. The Ferrari driver has released two pieces of music to date and both of them have been immense hits among his fans. The song AUS23 (1:1) has 692,793 views on Youtube, and the other song, MIA23 (1:2), has 171,815 views as of June 2023. As for Spotify numbers, AUS23 (1:1) has been heard a whopping 4,769,735 times, and MIA23 (1:2) has had 1,789,624 listeners. All in all, Charles Leclerc’s music has been heard and appreciated by 7,423,967 listeners.

Charles Leclerc explains the inspiration behind his song names

Leclerc naming his songs as AUS23 and MIA23 hints that they somehow relate to his race outings. When asked by Monaco Hebdo about the song titles, Leclerc explained that he had trouble deciding names for his songs. He did not want to put a proper name because he did not think of himself as a professional artist.

It was then that his engineers came to help. Leclerc said, “One day I went to a restaurant with my engineers. I asked them if they had any idea what to call these titles. I didn’t want to give a “real” song title, it sounded too professional, and I don’t consider myself an artist. They said to me: ‘You should name them after the last Grand Prix you did’. So that’s what I did.”

Leclerc was very clear about his answer when asked if he had any special story he wanted to express through the track. He explained that he did not think about anything specific while composing the piece. “I sit on the piano, and what comes, comes,” said the Monegasque.

Charles Leclerc’s process of making music

Even though Leclerc does not want to think of himself as a proper artist, he is nothing less of a perfectionist. In another interview where Leclerc opened up about his songwriting process, he claimed that he gets carried away by the notes and just plays around for 2 to 3 hours. He only publishes the music if he is completely satisfied with it.

I play as soon as I get home in Monte-Carlo. 3 days ago I got on the piano and I came out with something I liked. my songs are always born like this,” says Charles Leclerc. It is very evident that the Ferrari driver is highly passionate about music. Whether he will come out with even more music or not is something that only time will tell.
