"Before Max Verstappen, Formula 1 Was a Bit Boring": Red Bull Advisor

Max Verstappen is one of the significant names in Formula 1, who has won 37 races and two titles and is only 25 years old. His level of success at this age is unprecedented, and many have started to accept that by the time the Dutchman retires, he’ll be among the greatest drivers of all time.

Though, a large section also believes he has already established himself on the illustrious list. But no matter whether one loves Verstappen or not, it’s undeniable that he’s an exceptional talent.

His driving style is something that isn’t shared among all the drivers. That’s why his arrival sparked excitement among fans and quickly gave him a colossal fanbase. But Verstappen’s role is more revolutionary than thought for Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko.

Max Verstappen made Formula 1 entertaining

The docuseries released by Viaply, which revolves around Verstappen’s 2022 campaign, has Marko talking about the two-time world champion. According to the Austrian, the Red Bull star made F1 entertaining.

“Before Max [Verstappen], Formula 1 was bit boring,” said Marko in Anatomy of a Champion“The way Max is fighting, made it exciting and people like it.”

Surely, Verstappen, under his rise, gave one of the most iconic seasons in F1 ever when he went against Lewis Hamilton for the 2021 title. The championship that day was decided on the final lap of the season. Though it also caused several controversies.

Is he making it boring again?

When Verstappen started, F1 was getting boring because Mercedes was too superior. From 2014 to 2020, Hamilton won every championship except in 2016, when his former teammate Nico Rosberg defeated him marginally to clinch his maiden title.

But still, it was the same team that was taking the entire grid for a ride. The 2021 season brought in much-required freshness in the sport. However, in 2023, the Dutchman is relishing a similar kind of superiority.

In the first three races of the season, Verstappen won two races, with the other remaining one won by his teammate Sergio Perez. So, is Verstappen bringing back the same boringness he had combated earlier?
