Carlos Sainz Reveals McLaren Confiscated His $256,000 Company Car Upon Signing for Ferrari

Driving for an F1 team comes with the perks of driving around in a supercar gifted to you by your company. Carlos Sainz got the chance to drive a McLaren 600 LT Spider as a perk for being a McLaren driver.

Until then, the Spaniard used to drive an old Volkswagen Golf that he purchased at the age of 17. So, it’s safe to say he enjoyed his new $256,000 worth of ride given to him by his team towards the end of 2019.

However, the joy of driving a McLaren was rather short-lived. In May 2020, it was announced that the Spaniard will be replacing Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari in the 2021 season.

McLaren peacefully parted ways with their star driver after thanking him for his 2 years with the team. However, poor Sainz had to immediately lose his supercar upon switching allegiance to Maranello.

McLaren took away my car upon signing for Ferrari

Sainz was asked about the status of his McLaren 600LT in a live stream. That’s where the Spaniard revealed the fate of his car.

Sainz said, “They took away the car from me, the day I signed with Ferrari!” To which his then teammate Norris added, “He’s taking the bus to work.”

The Spaniard continued, “The moment I signed for Ferrari, they took my McLaren 600 LT. You can imagine how tough it was for me to walk to work every day.”

The 600 LT Spider is a fantastic modern supercar by McLaren. It sports a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that can spit out 582 HP of power. The car has a top speed of 323 Kmh and can clock 0-100 in under 2.9 seconds.

Sainz got a custom dark silver car with orange brake calipers. However, the Spaniard was left to return back to his trusted VW golf.

Sainz has a new supercar in his garage now

Sainz signed for Ferrari in 2021, replacing 4-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel. The Spaniard is a crux driver for the Scuderia, who has managed to score some key points and podiums for the team during its troubled years.

Therefore, Ferrari arranged a custom “Tailor-made” 812 Competizione. The Spaniard received his 819 HP customized V-12 Supercar a couple of months before the 2023 season began.

Sainz was overwhelmed with joy upon receiving his first personal Ferrari. He uttered, “I can’t believe it’s mine,” whilst revealing the car on his Youtube channel.

Sainz did some major personalization on his car including opting for an enigmatic dark grey paint job. He added his catchphrase, “Smooth Operator” on the driverside treadplate. The driver also added his Logo and racing number ’55’ on a floor mat.

The car can do 0-100 Kmh in 2.85 seconds with a top speed of 340 kmph. Although the car will set you back $600,000, it’s impossible to buy one now as Ferrari has already sold all 999 models of the 812 Competizione made in Maranello.
