Charles Leclerc joined the Ferrari F1 team in 2019 and fulfilled his lifelong dream of driving the red car. But when he was just a young karter he was prohibited from entering the glorious gate of the Maranello factory.
Leclerc, who has been tipped to be the future F1 champion of Ferrari and bring the glory back to the Scuderia, recalled the story in a Shell-sponsored video.
And while it was a disappointing moment for the young Monegasque, it fuelled his passion for Ferrari even more.
Recollecting the memory, Leclerc said that his godfather Jules Bianchi, who was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, suggested that Leclerc could accompany him to Maranello.
The young aspiring F1 driver seized the opportunity but as he made his way to Maranello with Bianchi he was denied entry because he was only 12.

Charles Leclerc might score an unwanted record
Leclerc like any other driver on the grid is chasing an F1 title and he even came close to achieving his dream in the 2022 season. But he soon failed to compete with Red Bull and Max Verstappen and instead finished P2.
Even after scoring nine pole positions, Leclerc could only turn 2 of those into race wins and if this trend continues in the 2023 season as well, he would have bagged an unwanted record.
Currently, the Ferrari driver has an 18-pole position with no titles in hand. This means that he is only three pole positions away from setting a record.
The record currently is held by Valtteri Bottas. He scored 20 pole positions at Mercedes with no titles in his bag.

Leclerc is more mature
After his struggles in the 2022 season with the reliability and strategic problems in Ferrari, Leclerc says that he has learnt a lot from his struggles and believes that it has made him a better driver.
Speaking on his Youtube blog, Leclerc explained that every season in Formula 1 you learn new things and it changes you as a driver.
He said, “after every mistake, you learn and you grow, so I’m more mature, but there’s not been a particular change, no.”
