Christian Horner Once Used “Get Out of Jail Card” To Save Red Bull

Christian Horner once used a very powerful weapon to save his team from massive embarrassment. The Red Bull team principal used the “get out of jail card” to make sure that Max Verstappen and Co. remain safe from excessive trolling from fans and experts alike.

Despite winning both world championships last year, the Austrian team faced a huge amount of backlash for breaching the previous season’s cost cap. As the news of the infringement spread everywhere, Red Bull faced was forced to deal with trolls and slander all over social media.

Horner, who has always led and defended the team passionately, yet again used his masterstroke to fend off another major embarrassment. This time, he saved his people from Netflix and Drive to Survive.

Christian Horner saved Red Bull from slander

Horner recently revealed in an interview, that he stopped Netflix from using certain footage which they had taken from hours and hours of recording. Horner didn’t want these clips to be shown. As a result, the Brit forbade Netflix from including them in the final cut.

Talking to The Financial Times, the 49-year-old stated that he objected to some of the clips he received. Fans didn’t get to see it, because Netflix listened to Horner, and it didn’t make the final cut.

Horner revealed that the Netflix people set up a microphone on their body ahead of filming. It remains there for the rest of their day as they get their footage and recordings in.

Talking about the footage, Horner said, “You think ‘Did I really say that? Did I really call someone a ‘See You Next Tuesday’?’ At that point, we say ‘You can’t put that in there, there’s a part of the car you can’t show’.

That’s the only get out of jail card we have,” said the 49-year-old boss as reported by Crash.net.

The footage Horner was referring to remains a mystery. Red Bull dealt with a lot of controversy in 2022, so Netflix had a lot to choose from. It could have been their budget cap fiasco, or maybe even some insight into Max Verstappen’s altercation with Sergio Perez after the 2022 Sao Paolo GP.

Horner calls Drive to Survive ‘Kardashians on Wheels’

Interestingly, the Red Bull boss recently called Drive to Survive a version of the popular American show, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians show’.

Calling it “Kardashians on Wheels” the British executive emphasized how the show puts the daily lives of the drivers and team bosses under the microscope. According to the Brit, the producers don’t focus much on the sporting aspect of the show.

Horner, who only watches the only Red Bull-related episodes, talked about this in the Pardon My Take talk show. There he opened up about this after finding drastic similarities with the Jenners’ and Kardashians’ show.

However, it seems as though Horner will have to deal with at least another season of Drive to Survive. Season five hit the screens earlier in 2023 and so far, the show has also been renewed for another year.
