Done Deal: Haas to confirm Mick Schumacher as their driver for 2021 season in the coming days

Done Deal: Haas is set to confirm Mick Schumacher as their driver for the 2021 season in the coming days, as per Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Haas is set to confirm Mick Schumacher as their driver for next season, along with Nikita Mazepin. He will also be the test driver for Haas at Abu Dhabi, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mick Schumacher’s colleagues at the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott will drive the Ferrari and Alfa Romeo respectively at the young drivers’ test after the Abu Dhabi GP.

As for Schumacher, it is now believed he will get a practice test driving role at Abu Dhabi. He missed out on that at Nurburgring after rain washed out the first session. He was chosen to drive the Alfa Romeo for that day. There were rumors of him joining the Ferrari sister concern, but the Italian team chose to retain Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

When asked by f1-insider.com about the driver situation at Haas, the otherwise outspoken Gunther Steiner did not reveal much. Steiner also hopes the incumbent Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen do well in the last three races, as they look west for a seat in the IndyCar series.

“We still have a few little things to sort out.”

McLaren CEO delighted at the prospect of Mick Schumacher joining F1

Zak Brown has given his thumbs up to Mick Schumacher joining F1 via Haas, and continuing the Schumacher legacy. He has been impressive and looks set to win F2, with a sizeable 22 points lead over Illot.

“It’s going to be good to have him in the sport next year. I believe he will be in a Haas Formula 1 car, he seems to be a good talent. Lot to live up to when your last name is Schumacher. But no doubt he will put on a good show.” said Brown.”
