Esteban Ocon has been handed a five-second time penalty for getting in contact with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in the pitlane.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton made a solid start from P14 and gained three places to P11 after he crossed Alpine’s, Fernando Alonso. However, when the driver made a pit stop he lost position as he made contact with the Alpine driver Esteban Ocon in the pitlane.

Ocon made an unsafe release in the pitlane and made contact with Hamilton’s car while exiting. Doing so, he took over the seven-time world champion. Stewards later put the incident under investigation and handed a five-second time penalty to the French man.

The Briton had a slow pit stop and then later on as he struggled to get the tyres warmed up, he lost another position to the Williams’ Alex Albon.

Looking at the incident, F1 fans fumed over Ocon for not being careful with his pit exit.
