F1 Fans Remember Sebastian Vettel's 'Ominous' Warning After Imola GP is Cancelled: 'First Underwater...'

The news of the cancelation of the Imola Grand Prix this weekend due to excessive flooding in the region came as a major disappointment to F1 fans. Several of them recollected the wise words of Sebastian Vettel, who has often voiced his concerns about climate change.

Last year, the German grabbed headlines after he famously wore a shirt that foreshadowed that the ‘first underwater‘ race will take place in Miami in 2060. While Vettel’s message may not have meant much then, the recent news of cancelation reminded fans about what the 35-year-old said last season.

F1 fans remember Vettel’s message amid Imola GP cancelation

Several F1 fans stated that they believe that the visuals of Imola seem to foreshadow what Sebastian Vettel predicted last year. In order to remind others of Vettel’s message, they posted an image of the t-shirt the 35-year-old wore last year at the Miami Grand Prix. Vettel’s t-shirt read,

Miami 2060. 1st Grand Prix Underwater. Act now or swim later“.

Along similar lines, fans such as Michael suggested that while Vettel’s prediction of an ‘underwater‘ race in the future may be right, he might get the venue and the date wrong, as the signs are already there.

Meanwhile, some other fans such as Saul edited Vettel’s t-shirt from last year with ‘Imola 2023‘ and said that he was ‘right‘ about his warning.

And then there were other fans such as Luigiii that provided visuals of how the areas in close proximity to the Imola Grand Prix track were flooded completely. After providing these visuals, they too reminded fans of Vettel’s ominous warning from last year.

Sebastian Vettel revealed why he wore the Miami 2060 t-shirt last year

When asked by Sky Sports F1 if his intention of wearing the Miami 2060 t-shirt was to spread a political message, Sebastian Vettel repliedNo‘ before adding that he hoped to spread a ‘very human message‘. He then explained his point further by adding,

Sometimes the truth isn’t very nice. But it is still worth spreading if it is so serious and it will impact so many people, especially those people who cannot afford to maybe start over new. It should show us that we are in trouble, and we need to act now. Otherwise, there will be a lot of suffering”.

As seen by Vettel’s reply back then, the former F1 driver knew that the way society has been functioning recently will not bode down too well in the long run. And if the pictures of the floods are anything to go by, it seems that signs of what could come in the future are already there.
